The mission of New Palestine United Church simply is….To reach, teach, and equip persons to live by the example of Jesus Christ. To further this mission, the congregation of New Palestine United Church seeks to provide for and maintain worship service at various times for the community, to teach the Word of God, Christian truth and to cultivate Christian character, to promote unity within the body of Christ and reach out to the community and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4) as revealed in Scripture.
Statement of Faith
We were congregation of the new Palestine United Church, a local group of the universal body of Christ, believe in God, Creator, Infinite Wisdom, Goodness, Holiness and Love. We acknowledge as the head of the Body, of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, our One and Only Savior, who for us came to this earth, lived, died and rose again, and that our salvation is wholly dependent upon His shed blood and our acceptance by faith. We believe in the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit as are equipper for the work of the ministry in the world. We hold fast to the Word of God in the Scriptures as the all-sufficient rule and guide for our faith and practice.
We covenant with our Lord Jesus Christ and with one another as a body of believers to walk in His way as made known, and being made known to us through the Holy Scriptures, striving to be doers of the word and not hearers only; to be firm in faith, quicken in hope and constant in our love for one another. We covenant together to concentrate our time, talents, substance and influence as a heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ, to the unfinished work of God in the world – to continue to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth until all have the opportunity to hear, and accept or reject the Gospel message of salvation.
History of the Church
New Palestine United Church was organized as Deutsche Evangelische Protestantische Zions Gemeinde in 1886, a German Evangelical Church. It became an Evangelical and Reformed Church with the merge of the Evangelical of the synod of North America and the Reformed Church of the United States on June 26, 1934. The Evangelical and Reformed Church merged with the congregational and Christian Church in 1957 forming the United Church of Christ. Zion E & R United Church of Christ on June 25th, 1957, The church was incorporated on March 28, 1973. In 1998, the name of the church was changed to the New Palestine United Church. Then on October 21, 2001 the church withdrew from association with the UCC thus becoming an independent, non-denominational Fellowship of Christians. In 2002 we began referring to the church as “His Place” out of recognition that the church is “His” – Christ’s Church, – not our church. We have a new church for a new time to carry on the same old message of the cross to a new generation.
